Filmmaker based in Toronto. Formerly a swimmer, now chasing a different kind of freedom.

My name is Yedam, but everyone calls me Hwi. In Korean, hwi means to fly.

I was born in Seoul, grew up in Vancouver, and moved to Toronto in 2020 to study Kinesiology at the University of Toronto. For most of that time, I was an elite swimmer, a BC provincial representative who set a few provincial records along the way. It might not look like a filmmaker's origin story. But none of it was a detour. All of it taught me how to see.

I've been making cinematic work since 2024. Alongside filmmaking, I work as Marketing Manager, which keeps me close to the kind of people I love to film: artists who wear their craft on their hands.

 

I'm queer, I love animals, and I believe the most honest thing a film can do is show someone exactly as they are.
