Filmmaker based in Toronto.
Formerly a swimmer, now chasing a different kind of freedom.
Hwi (Yedam Lee) is a Toronto-based filmmaker specializing in cinematic work that captures people at their most unguarded. Born in Seoul and raised in Vancouver, she brings a particular sensitivity to questions of identity, movement, and what it means to belong.
A former elite swimmer and BC provincial representative, Hwi set multiple provincial records before pursuing a degree in Kinesiology at the University of Toronto. The discipline of sport and the study of human movement remain central to how she approaches the frame.
Since 2024, her work has been guided by a single belief: that most people have never seen themselves the way a camera can. As a queer filmmaker, she is drawn to the parts of people that go unseen, the details that flicker at the edges, the beauty people carry without knowing it.
